Possible VS Impossible: Crowdsourcing

It’s awfully hard typing in paragraphs so I’ll just post a “stream of consciousness” note form. May or may not clean it up in the future.

Uses of crowdsourcing: Moderation (of posts on website, etc), Image identification (quote: “photos are the dark matter of the internet”), especially in relation to moderation. Each industry is a billion dollar industry. Moving from 85% accuracy to 99% accuracy.

Understanding who (Crowdsourcing’s) buyers are: Nobody wants to buy crowdsourcing. They want something that is safe and smart. Our job is to convince them to get high quality data, faster turnarounds, etc. Cultural gap between Silicon Valley and our buyers.

Leila (Samasource): Future of Crowdsourcing/Distributed work: 4bn untapped brains. Doing work in lower income. (In India) One worker who swims across a stream to get to the Computer Labs to work. If we have ways to deliver work to people, where they live -> change the motivation of people who work).
